Otters are very playful, secretive and one of Britain's most loved mammals. They can be seen in rivers, streams and estuaries across Britain. There numbers are now increasing with less pollution in our rivers and streams, the otter was threatened in the early sixties and came close to extinction in Britain. Male Otters are called Dogs and females are called Bitches. They can stay submerged under water for as long as four minuets, a truly beautiful creature of our shores.
